Travel Information for Cataract and LASIK Training

Our training center in Baroda, where most training (except the occasional Intensive LASIK Course) is conducted is in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. Here is some travel information for the same.

Vadodara is also sometimes called Baroda. It is 800 km south of Delhi, and 400 kms north of Mumbai. It is 100 kms from Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai are all international airports, with several flights from all over India and the world.

India requires visitors for most countries to have a travel visa. For an invitation letter for visa purposes, you may write to Neha Amin.

Getting to Vadodara

There are several train connections from all over India to Vadodara. You can easily buy tickets on Indian Railways Online.

Jet AirwaysIndigo Airlines and Air India have several daily flights from both Mumbai and Delhi to Vadodara.

From Ahmedabad, one can easily get a taxi to come from the Airport to Vadodara. The cost of a taxi (without sharing) is approximately Rs. 2000/-.

The center is located in the main commercial hub of Vadodara, also known as Alkapuri. It is 8 kms from the Airport, and 2 kms from the railway station. Autorickshaw (3 Wheel Taxis), and the taxi calling services, Uber and Ola are available for local transport. These are plentiful and cheap, and unlike most places in India, you actually pay only by meter. Regular Taxis are also available, but these have to be booked in advance (you cannot hail a taxi).

About Vadodara

Vadodara is a city with a population of around 1.5 million people. It is an economically prosperous and educationally and culturally rich city. In the industrial estates around Vadodara is one of India’s largest oil refineries, large petrochemical complexes, fertiliser companies and various pharma companies. In addition, it is one of the largest engineering hubs in India, with various engineering companies like L & T, ABB, Bombardier, General Motors, Suzlon and Linde having major hubs in Vadodara. Vadodara is also home to Maharaja Sayajirao University, which also has an attached medical college.

Things To Do and Eating Out

There are a number of Movie Theater Multiplexes (with associated shopping malls) within 2 kms of the center. These include

Close to the center are standard restaurants, including local choices (for e.g. Barbeque Nation, Little Italy and Mainland China), but also international chains, including Pizza Hut, Papa Johns Pizza, McDonalds, Lavazza Coffee and Subway Sandwiches. The Welcom Hotel has a signature restaurant (Peshawari), and a very nice lunch and dinner buffet (Cambay Pavilion). The Express Towers Hotel has a typical “Thali” restaurant, Mandap, which serves authentic local cuisine.

Vadodara is a “dry” state, which means that you cannot consume any type of alcohol in public places, and alcohol is not served in restaurants and hotels. However, as a visitor, you can easily (within 10 minutes) get a permit which will allow you to purchase alcohol and consume it within the comfort of your room.
